How to be a healthy mom

fitness mindset mom

Congratulations! You're officially a mama!

There has never been a better time to take care of yourself! Now that you are a mom, you need your strength and energy more than ever. Chasing around a toddler is no joke!

It would be easy to throw in the towel, skip your workouts and order pizza for dinner. But making healthy choices every day will give leave you feeling your best and you will be better able to take care of your family.

Here are my top tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a new mom:

  • Take care of yourself! You can't pour from an empty cup. Make sure you are getting enough sleep (7-8 hours a night), limit time on social media, and check in with yourself. Listen to your body and what it needs. Somedays you may need a nap and some days you may need a massage!

  • Exercise! Moving your body will boost your energy, strengthen your muscles and burn off the baby weight. Your workouts don't have to be super long and you don't need any fancy equipment. Aim to exercise for 30 minutes 4 days a week. Here is a 10 minute circuit you can do at home:
  • Nourish your body. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of carbohydrates, lean proteins & healthy fats will give your body the energy and strength it needs! Load up on fruits and vegetables that are loaded with vitamins and nutrients. Ditch the sugary drinks and processed foods that weigh you down and drain your energy. Lastly, drink plenty of water (half your body weight in oz per day)

  • Be flexible. Adjusting to a healthy lifestyle can take some time. It's ok if you oversleep because the baby was up all night. It's ok it you have to get takeout because you left your lunch at home. What's important is that you make healthy choices and remember that those choices add up.

  • Breathe! Taking care of your family can be stressful! You're always thinking about changing diapers, cleaning messes and when the next feeding is. It's easy to forget to breathe! Take time to breathe and focus on the present moment. This will create a sense of peace and you will be better able to enjoy the moment with your family.

Remember that nobody's perfect! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you are embarking on this new chapter of your life but you are not alone! It’s impossible to maintain that supermom status and no mom should be expected to. The goal is to make sure you are taking care of yourself, spending quality time with your family and using your power of choice! The healthy choices you make will have a positive and powerful impact on your body and your family!
