Potty Training at 10 Months?

mom

Starting off with a wild parenting fact: my aunt, who's also my godmother, managed to potty train her daughter at just 10 months old! Yes, you read that right. At 10 months, my cousin was sitting on a little potty seat. Sound insane? Let me explain.

The Challenges of Early Potty Training

My aunt is a determined woman—some might say a bit intense. She decided diapers were not an option, and she made potty training happen. While impressive, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Imagine this: a baby strapped in a car seat, screaming because she had to pee and couldn’t just go in her diaper. Early potty training might eliminate diapers, but it introduces a whole new set of challenges, like constantly planning for bathroom breaks and dealing with meltdowns when a restroom isn’t nearby.

And this isn’t an isolated case. I’ve heard stories about other cultures starting potty training as early as four months old because diapers aren’t a feasible option. It’s fascinating but definitely not my goal. As a mom of four, I’m perfectly fine with waiting until my child is closer to three years old to fully master the process.

What are your potty training tips and resources? Who has potty trained this early?
